Board Updates! (Part 2 - Territories and the Map)

Kings and Kingettes!

Further developments! We’ve been diligent at work, preparing to show our next demo at the Capital Creative Showcase on April 20th! https://www.capitalcreativeshowcase.com/

Each week, we’ll be posting updates of what we’re working on. Some will be available to play, while some features are just too early to show. We’re happy to discuss anyways because we want feedback. We’ll continue to do this until the day of the show, so consider subscribing on itch or… anywhere!

This week, let’s talk about…

Territories!

Yes! For our single-player campaign (which is a huge undertaking, and it’ll be a while still…) we’ve started planning out the concept of territories and maps. King Evander (the main king) travels from land to land, fighting other kings on an epic quest to… mostly travel and fight other kings for land.

As our chess king moves his army, we plan to have an overworld that allows players to see their progress, take alternate path choices for encounters, buy troops (chess pieces with quirks and upgraded abilities), and guide their army into a variety of battles.

Here’s a sample of what we have in our mockup in planning (most art is placeholder).

Traveling along the path leads to more and more battles. Each battle will be a Chess-like encounter, either as a puzzle or other strategy-based board. It’s still early in planning, but we’re making progress. So far, we only have mockups for the Shop page and the Army overview.

Here’s a simple pathfinder demo in development right now. (it’s rough…)

Ultimately, because it’s so early in development, we don’t plan to showcase this at CCS 2024, but we’re making progress and we wanted to show some of that. Post-showcase, we hope to return to this feature.

If you’d like to support us, consider joining our Patreon. We’re still very early in development, and any help goes a long way.
