This week, let’s talk about…

The Semi-Secret Sandbox!

What is the semi-secret sandbox? Well, it’s where we break our own game to try new upgrades and abilities!

We’ve thought about using a real sandbox to play in, but the sand roughs up the polish of our board. Plus, you’d be surprised how easy it is to lose 32 pieces.

Plus, in our sandbox, we have a bunch of cheat codes to add, remove, upgrade, downgrade, and recolor pieces (we use a third party command console).

We try new mechanics where we can, slowly migrating to using the video game instead of paper only to test mechanics. Slowly, we’re building our underlying Chess game framework and it gets better at handling more “questionable” upgrades.

While the sandbox is ‘technically’ available, it’s really in a delicate, mostly broken state. Other than using it to test features in progress, we haven’t put much thought into making it its own feature… yet.
